Overheard In Law School 2

"Think of Goldberg v. Kelly as Star Wars and Mathews v. Elridge as Emperor Strikes back. And those big walker machines are stomping all over the 14th Amendment." -Public Benefits Professor

"I'd hate to be the person giving my presentation after him. I mean, that'd be like on American Idol if Kristy Lee Cook had to go up after David Archuleta." - Law Student in my row

I am so sick of the valley girl law students sitting next to me. It's so weird to hear them talk about serious things like adverse possession when every other word coming out of their mouths is "like" and with stereotypical flamboyant gay man voice fluctuations..."So like, the main elements of adverse possession, are like, actual possession. Open and notorious. Yeah, and like, hostility. And isn't there like one more? Oh my god. Is that like, a picture of your bf? How old is he? I totally like his hair."

How do these people trick admissions into getting accepted?

I wonder that ALL the time myself. I also don't understand how some of the girls dress like they're on Hannah Montana. Seriously. There are a few girls in some of my classes who wear hip-hop style HATS. And one even has a shirt that says, "I'm Anjuli - that's ME!"

It's pathetic.

OK, slightly odd post. I just found your blog a few days ago after my husband and I decided that we wanted to start our family during law school and while desperately searching for something that would reassure me that I'm not crazy. I was reading your old posts and thinking how much I could relate to some of your law school experience when I suddenly realized that I wasn't just relating, I was actually sharing your law school experience. Yep, I too have been shot at (and even bombarded with grenades) in Contracts and have lamented the fact that the Sidebar always seems to give the last brownie to some annoying undergrad in a tube top sized skirt. If this is too weird, I can sink back into anonymity. On the other hand, if you feel like a cup of coffee and an in person bitch session during finals, let me know. It would be nice to hear how our school has reacted to your pregnancy anyway.

Just think of the admissions scene in Legally Blonde...

hi Terra,

Not to distroy your anonymity either, but you go to SU Law school too? Sounds like you had Mahmud for contracts :) It would be fun to meet up. I think having a baby in law school ended up being smart for me because i have so much more flexibility now than if I was in an intense job.

I am actually studying for my contracts final right now (just not very successfully). Love Mahmud, love contracts, but so ready to be done with 1L year. I'm not so big on the anonymous thing - we should grab coffee or cake. (I vote for cake) If you look me up on our school outlook address book there are only 4 Terra's and I'm the only one whose last name starts with E, so you can find me pretty easily. Any advice on con law professors?
